In maths we have been learning about geometry, angles, symmetry, algebra - speed, formula and algebra equations. Here is a presentation on speed. To do this we have been using paper planes and seeing when they land and we time that and then divide it and that makes a ...metres per second.
I have enjoyed this hurumanu as i enjoy amths i didnt enjoy it at the start as i did not understand the algebra
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Water Cycle
AIM: TO LOOK AT THE WATER CYCLE AND HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING IT.
Definition:
EVAPORATION:
THE PROCESS OF TURNING FROM A LIQUID INTO VAPOR.
THE PROCESS OF SOMETHING ABSTRACT CEASING TO EXIST.
TRANSPIRATION:
(OF A PLANT OR A LEAF) THE EXHALATION OF WATER VAPOR THROUGH THE STOMATA.
(PLANTS LOSE MORE THAN 90 PERCENT OF THEIR WATER THROUGH TRANSPIRATION)
PRECIPITATION:
THE ACTION OR PROCESS OF PRECIPITATING A SUBSTANCE OF A SOLUTION.
RAIN, SNOW, SLEET, OR HAIL THAT FALLS TO OR CONDENSES ON THE GROUND.
CONDENSATION:
WATER WHICH COLLECTS AS DROPLETS ON A COLD SURFACE WHEN HUMID AIR IS IN CONTACT WITH IT.
THE CONVERSION OF A VAPOR OR GAS TO A LIQUID.
Scientific words:
EVAPORATION. WHEN WATER IS HEATED BY RADIANT ENERGY IT TURNS INTO WATER VAPOR.
TRANSPIRATION. EVAPORATION FROM PLANTS.
CONDENSATION. WHEN WATER VAPOR COOLS, MOLECULES JOIN TOGETHER AND FORM CLOUDS.
PRECIPITATION. WHEN CLOUDS GET HEAVY THE WATERS FALLS AS RAIN, SLEET, HAIL, OR SNOW.
ACIDIFICATION: THE ACTION OR PROCESS OF MAKING OR BECOMING ACIDIC.
WE WILL BE CONDUCTING AN EXPERIMENT THAT LOOKS AT THE DIFFERENT WAYS THAT CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING THE WATER CYCLE.
THE WATER CYCLE EXPERIMENT
BAG 1: NORMAL WATER CYCLE
BAG 2: WATER CYCLE WITH CO2 ADDED: LIKE OCEANS IN CLIMATE CHANGE
BAG 3: WATER CYCLE WITH ICE ADDED: LIKE ANTARCTICA IN CLIMATE CHANGE
Material:
PLASTIC BAG
VIVID MARKER
1 CUP OF WATER
2 DROPS OF FOOD COLORING
Steps:
GOT OUR BAG
WE DREW EVERYTHING WE NEEDED TO ON IT.
NEXT, WE ADDED 1 CUP OF WATER
THE ADDED 2 DROPS OF FOOD COLORING
AFTER THAT, I ADDED DOUBLE SIDED TAPE ON ONE SIDE OF THE BAG AND TAPED IT TO THE WINDOW.
Two Images:
Findings: It was really easy to make and do.
Conclusion:

Key: Water and acidity amount: 1 = none
2 = small drips
3 = large drips
Other comments:
1. Water cycle 1 had no acidity
2 Water cycle bag 1-2-3 both have small amount of drips in them.
3 Water cycle bag 1&3 have no acidity in them
4 Water cycle 1-2-3- all cycle
Conclusion:
It was fun and learned heaps
Draw a labelled diagram of the Water Cycle
Water cycle words:
- Precipitation
- Hurricanes
- Storms
- Evaporation
- Carbon Dioxide
- Water
- Oceans
- Water vapour
- Freshwater
- Flooding
SOLO Hexagons Activity
1. Ice cap melt
2. Acidification
3. Deforestation
4. Water vapour
Ice cap melt definition:
A polar ice cap is a region of land at the North or South Pole of a planet that is covered with ice. ... As the polar ice caps melt, sea levels rise and the oceans become less saline.
2 pictures:
Deforestation definition:
Deforestation is the clearing of trees, transforming a forest into clear land. You can see word forest in deforestation.

Climate Change
Aim: To look at the causes of climate change and how to prevent it.
As you watch the video answer these questions:
What is our greatest threat in thousands of years?
How do we see climate change affecting the globe?
- Flooding
- Droughts
- Tsunami
- Wind
- Wind
- Global Temperature and Sea Temperature Rising
- Carbon Dioxide, Gasses
Is climate change a man made disaster? Yes
Dramatic action must be made in the next 1000 years to change it?
Why is our climate changing?
Because people are using gas/fossil fuel and polluting earth
What is causing the warming trend of the climate? Burning fossil fuels that is releasing too much carbon dioxide into earth and making earth too hot.
What is the main problem? Earth is heating up 2 much and Antarctica is melting and then the water levels will rise and all of earth will go under water.
Burning fossil fuels releases what gas? Carbon Dioxide
How much hotter now is our world? The average global temperature on Earth has increased by about 0.8 degrees Celsius 1.4 Degrees Fahrenheit since 1880.
What do we call this global warming? Climate Change
How is this affecting creatures / animals like bats? More frequent and intense drought, storms, heat waves, rising sea levels, melting glaciers and warming oceans can directly harm animals.
What percentage of species are near extinction? 99.9%
How could this effect the world ecosystems?
All the animals will be extincted.
What global change was seen and recording breaking last year?
All the animals/mammals are dyeing and getting near extinction
How is climate change affecting our weather systems?
Global analyses show that the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere has in fact increased due to human-caused warming. This extra moisture is available to storm systems, resulting in heavier rainfalls. Climate change also alters characteristics of the atmosphere that affect weather patterns and storms.
What is another effect of climate change?
What will happen if the ice melts in Antarctica and the Arctic?
How does this affect people?
Flooding there houses and having nowhere to live.
What other things affect oceans change? As greenhouse gases trap more energy from the sun, the oceans are absorbing more heat
What does too much heat do to the coral?
Kill the fish

Hurumanu-Drama
In drama we did some activities where listen and talk listen and look and some other stuff the main stuff that we did were freeze frames to represent the the four aspects of hauora which is taha hinengarao taha whanau taha tinana taha wairua I will show you each of the four aspects with freeze frames this is for taha hinegaro
Taha Wairua/Spiritual Wellbeing
Taha Whanau/Social wellbeing
Taha Hinengaro/Mental and Emotional
